The theme of the Iowa Innovation, Business, and Law (IBL) Center's Spring 202 speaker series is "Name, Image, and Likeness: College Athletes and the Law." Name, image, and likeness has been a hot and somewhat controversial topic since the NCAA dropped its restraints on college athlete endorsement deals in 2021. A mix of academic, practitioner, law, and non-law in-person speakers will present in their areas of expertise.

The series kicked off on January 17 with Marc Edelman, a Law Professor at the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College in New York. Edelman gave an overview of the current state of college athlete endorsement deals, and state laws that prevent NCAA member schools from interfering with endorsement opportunities. His talk can be viewed here.

Following are the dates and remaining speakers in the series. For more detailed descriptions and speaker bios, along with information on how to RSVP for a lunch (if in person) or watch online for events being livestreamed, visit our Speaker Series page.
